DMA members provide credit to the poor but what we care about most is impact—improving the lives of poor people by helping them create jobs and better living conditions for themselves. This is why we lend in the first place.
The member organisations measure their impact (or social performance) in various ways. Some are beginning to use the internationally recognized Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI) for South Africa, developed by the Grameen Foundation in the USA and adapted for South Africa.
One of DMA’s goals is to assist members to develop their impact measurement skills and capacity. Impact measurement can help improve operations. Major donors and social investors also need hard data to support their own spending choices.
